The key to determining how much you should and can spend on your engagement ring? Defining your limit and looking at a heck of a lot of rings. Its quite easy in diamonds and jewelry to set a budget then end up spending three to five times what you had originally planned to get something bigger or better than you had anticipated. That's why setting a budget is key. In fact that is one of the first things we suggest when starting the process of an engagement ring. Whether your budget is $1000 or $100,000 its easy to work with you once a budget is known. Its our job to get you what you want, within that budget.
SET YOUR LIMIT Determine a reasonable range of what you want to spend. We recommend a top and bottom range. Some piece pick a very specific number others have a general idea either way is ok. Many people ask us how to pick that budget. The answer is simple, pick what is affordable for you. Every situtation is different some people want to start and finish the ring quickly others choose layaway as an option and increase their budget that way. There is no wrong answer but having a general idea can really help you. Going over budget is ok just having a general idea can be to your benefit! LOOK AT A LOT OF RINGS People often times have a picture or a design idea in mind. That's awesome! It helps limit the search and saves a lot of headache. That being said show me a ring design and I am sure I can show you many similar options or variations that could improve that design greatly! So consider the design and what could be done to improve it (its our job to tell you how to make it better!) KNOW WHERE TO FOCUS YOUR BUDGET AND SPEND MORE Many people want their ring to be an investment. For the average buyer, I try not to encourage buying the engagement ring as an investment. Sure, the ring will have inherent value, however your engagement ring is a piece you will wear for a lifetime, and hopefully pass down as an heirloom, so focusing solely on its investment can be a mistake. Focusing different dollar amounts on different aspects of the ring can certainly help you build the right ring for now, and forever. We can help guide you through the process. SELECT WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU Its always important to select what you want. That being said always listen to what is being told to you. For example some clients want lab grown diamonds others natural. There are benefits and detriments to both, knowing and understanding is what is important. At the Velvet Box Society our job is simple, to educate the difference between stones, designs, and options. We know you will choose what is right for you and we can't tell you what is right for you we can only guide you through the process and tell you the facts.
