Watch Maintenance

GENERAL CLEANING
  • Keeping a watch clean on the outside reduces the chance of it getting dirty on the inside. Wipe off your watch periodically in order to remove any dust, dirt, or moisture.

HOW TO CLEAN A NON WATER-RESISTANT WATCH:
  • Avoid exposure to any water or liquid cleaners.
  • Wipe the watch with a dry soft cloth.

HOW TO CLEAN A WATER-RESISTANT WATCH:
  • Using a damp soft cloth, clean the head of the watch, wiping it off with a dry soft cloth.
  • Metal bracelets can be cleaned using soapy water and a soft bristled toothbrush.

MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE
  • A complete movement overhaul is recommended every two to five years to keep your watch working properly.

WINDING & SETTING
MANUAL WATCHES:
  • It is recommended to wind your manual watch fully at the same time each day.
  • Never force the crown when it stops moving, or if you feel resistance. Over-winding a watch can cause damage.

AUTOMATIC WATCHES:
Automatic watches should remain active from daily wear
  • When winding an automatic watch, turn the crown 20-30 times and than wear the watch.
  • If the watch has a screw-down crown, make sure to screw down the crown all the way to help ensure water-resistance.
  • If a watch is worn daily, be sure to wind it every two weeks.
Another helpful tool would be a watch winder!

BATTERIES
A battery found in a watch lasts roughly 12- 36 months. This is dependent on age, condition, and drawl of power of the watch. When a battery can no longer power the watch, be sure to change it promptly as a battery can leak inside of a watch causing damage.  We offer watch battery replacement services often times the same day we receive them or we are able to replace them while you wait!
WATER RESISTANCE
Water resistance is not a permanent factor in a timepiece. Testing  and renewing its water resistance by a professional watchmaker is needed to ensure the safety of your movement. Rubber gaskets and seals deteriorate inside a watch so it is helpful to have watches tested every one to two years. We offer that service so contact us today!

SWIMMING WITH A WATCH:
We generally recommend not swimming with any watch.
  • If your watch was designed for it – there is not a problem here just be sure the crown is pushed down and screwed in tightly and that your watch has been serviced and check for its seal.
  • Do not operate or adjust the crown or push buttons underwater, or in an environment where water could enter your watch.
  • Chlorine and salt water are detrimental to many watches.
Contact us about testing and fixing water resistance in your watch.

AVOID THESE SITUATIONS WITH YOUR TIMEPIECE:
- IMPACTS: Shocks and impacts to watches can result in permanent damage.
- EXTREME TEMPERATURES: Drastic temperature changes or extremes (above 140°F and below 32°F)
can affect your watches ability to keep time, as well as its water resistance.

- MAGNETIC FIELDS:  Magnets will cause a watch to run incorrectly.
- CHEMICALS:  Avoid contact with chemicals, cosmetics, perfumes, detergents, chlorine, hairspray, and more.
