In 2020 we saw round diamonds dominate the engagement ring scene and rightly so, they're amazing!  A strong growth in demand for well made nice make ovals as well.  This trend has continued to carry into 2021.  The third trend we have seen is the major rise in the popularity of cushion shaped stones.  Square cushions started the trend then we saw the emergence of the elongated cushion which really took hold towards the middle to end of 2020.  These are just the tip of the iceberg as far as center stone shapes. We'll talk about designs as well however first lets discuss some center stone trends we see gaining popularity along side of rounds, ovals, and cushions.

We've seen Elongated radiant cuts take a real stage so far in 2021.  In fact 20% of the rings we build for other jewelers have incorporated a longer shape and elongated radiants (and ovals).  I expect this trend to continue well into 2021.  Continuing this trend we have seen a lot of interest in large size marquise (5 carat and larger) with that we have noticed demand for a shape that is less well known.  That shape is the moval.  If you have not heard of it before that's no surprise.  The moval is a combination of the marquise and an oval hence the moval.  Essentially a moval is a very elongated oval, or a marquise just missing the points.  These stones have really become popular and surely this trend will continue!  The uniqueness of the moval is why I believe they are becoming more popular.  With this trend we have seen a major rise in other shapes not commonly found when hunting for an engagement ring.  Those shapes include hexagonal diamonds. kite shaped diamonds, elongated step cuts, lozenge cuts, pentagon shaped stones, and so many more.  We have crafted numerous custom engagement rings incorporating these unique shaped diamonds. We don't expect this trend to settle down any time soon!  Finally colored stones have continued their slow and steady rise as a side feature, center feature, or accent to the center.  This has been gaining in popularity for many years and the trend still appears to being moving forward.

Following a year of challenges and uncertainty, people are all about keeping it simple in 2021. Solitaire rings have become of interest again.  That being said there is no wrong decision in using accent diamonds down the side of the shank as this is always a classic and timeless element.  In 2021 we know two things 1) custom is king and 2) unique antique can't be beat.  Some couples are even designing rings together. In 2021, we’re predicting a rise in custom-made engagement rings and non-traditional styles. Speaking of customizing, we specialize in CAD design and craft anything you can possibly imagine. 

There’s no doubt that earth-created diamonds contain millennia of history, tradition, and romance.  An additional trend the continues to gain momentum is the use of laboratory grown diamonds.  This rise has been mainly because of price.  Lab grown or synthetic diamonds are generally 30% less expensive making them attractive.  However we still like the idea of natural grown diamonds because their price is stable (lab grown diamond pricing is not currently stable).  That being said to each their own and we are happy to craft a custom engagement ring for you with a laboratory grown diamond.

Yellow gold engagement rings have gained serious traction in 2020 and show no signs of slowing down in 2021. Rose gold also a contender as well however platinum and white gold remain supreme.  Yellow gold though that is the one to look out for.
