Anniversary
Year |
Gift |
1st: |
The
first year anniversary is a tribute to the honeymoon
phase and all is right. Starting a life together is exciting and can be
chaotic that's why a simple gift is a good one. A gold necklace or bracelet
for him or her, maybe the start of a tradition with a charm bracelet is a
good idea. Every couple is different yet here gold is always a staple. |
2nd: |
When
most people think of garnet they think of a dark orangey purple color. Did
you know garnets come in a whole host of different colors including yellow,
green, and of coarse red. Garnet is a good choice
because it’s a relatively hard stone, and can be used in any jewelry piece or
design, including rings, earrings and pendants. |
3rd: |
Pearls can be natural or cultured.
Most pearls seen today are cultured pearls and because natural pearls are
much more rare than cultured that makes them quite
expensive. Both are created by implanting (either sand or pebble in natural,
or bead nucleated in cultured) in a mollusk, such as an oyster. In natural
pearls, it’s just luck if it turns into a pearl. With cultured, the pearl
farmer inserts specifically to have the pearl grow. Pearls are available in
many colors other than the classic white. There are shades of pink, blue,
green, golden, gray and black. Each of which have overtone, orient, and
luster variations. Pearl jewelry can be a matched strand, a pendant,
earrings, or rings. A classic and staple in any collection whether for men or
a lady. For a gentleman an inlay mother of pearl would suit finely. |
4th: |
Topaz is found in many colors and
shades, and blue topaz was originally the most rare.
However, today heating turns colorless topaz different shades of blue. The
treatment is permanent. Deeper blues, such as “London ”
and “Swiss,” are caused by irradiation and heating, and the treatment is
considered permanent and stable. Topaz also comes in a much more rare orangey pink color. Today this topaz is
dramatically more expensive than the blue shades and is found in antique
jewelry. |
5th: |
Sapphire can also be found in many
colors. When most think of sapphire they think of the classic, blue. If
blue’s not your color, you can also find white, orange, yellow, shades of
pink, and violet, and purple. Even combination colors are possible both mixed
together like the alluring Padparadscha sapphire
(orange with pink tones) or parti colored sapphires (two distinct colors in
one stone). Sapphires also can undergo treatments. No heat sapphires are the
rarest and tend to command the highest prices. To get the perfect colors,
often times a sapphire is heat treated or diffusion treated, and both are
considered permanent these sapphires are generally more affordable options
and still look great! |
6th: |
Amethyst comes in a host of shades
of purples and even some almost pink colors. A durable stone it can be worn
anywhere. Additionally should you feel that you'd
like to give something different you could consider amethyst geodes as a
gift. They warm a home or office with their amazing display of nature. Jewelry
is not a bad gift as well. |
7th: |
Onyx is a hard, durable, stone
making it ideal for all jewelry. Onyx comes in almost any form from carvings
to cabochons it can be as diverse in design as it can be in style as onyx has
been used in many eras of jewelry. |
8th: |
Tourmaline is a great
gemstones for so many reasons, one of our favorite reasons is the vast
range in colors. Even if you and your partner have different favorites, you
may be able to find them both in one gem called parti-colored, bi color, or
watermelon in some cases. The watermelon tourmaline is a parti-colored gem,
and gets its name from its mix of green and red, and well, resembles a
watermelon slice. |
9th: |
Lapis, which can come in rich
vivid blues to blue and white mottling is a particularly great stone for
inlays. Often times in the Chinese practice of feng shui, masters use the
natural and supernatural to balance positive and negative energies and lapis
plays a key part in that for many. |
10th: |
Milestones like ten years of
marriage deserve something special. That is where diamond jewelry comes in.
Consider an upgrade to the diamond studs, a diamond riviera necklace, a
tennis bracelet, or even an eternity band. For him maybe some diamond
cufflinks, a diamond pinky ring, or even add some diamonds to his timepiece. |
11th: |
Turquoise can be found in green,
greenish-blue, light blue, to a deeper blue. It can trace its roots back to
ancient times yet can be found in jewelry crafted today. Maybe a bead strand
is the right direction, or a simple ring. However
you do it turquoise is sure to stand out. |
12th: |
Jade can be absolutely incredible
in color and transparency. It can be found as cabochons and carvings making
it diverse. Though it can be found in many colors, the most thought of color
is green. White jade, lavender jade, black jade, yellow jade can all be found
in the market. |
13th: |
Ahh Citrine, a beautiful yellow to
yellow-orange gem. It’s popular and affordable and lends itself well to any
design, with literally any color of metal. Some citrine seems to glow in the
sun particularly when paired with diamonds. |
14th: |
There’s a lot of variety in opal
particularly in precious opal meaning with a rainbow play of color within the
stone. Even in other opal like fire opal without play of color the vivid reds
and orange colors can be unique in jewelry. Fine black opal is considered
some of the most beautiful naturally found gems in the world. |
15th: |
When you hit a milestone such as
the 15th anniversary you have to consider the love and passion that got you
there. Ruby does just the trick. Natural, No Heat rubies of vivid colors and
saturations are some of the rarest stones in the world and the price does
reflect that. That being said most rubies you’ll find today have been heat
treated to improve their color and clarity. Heat treatment is permanent and
stable making heated stones a great choice for an affordable piece of
jewelry. The non heated option is great as well
just be prepared to spend a bit to get a phenomenal stone. |
16th: |
Peridot comes in various shades of
green, but tends toward lighter, grassy greens. Larger size peridots are
still considered rare. One great thing about peridot is often times its
mined, cut, and set in jewelry right here in the United States. |
17th: |
There is no bad time in a marriage
for a timepiece. The 17th anniversary is an occasion that can be marked with
the gift of time. There are countless options when it comes to selecting a
watch. Start with a budget or a design type and go from there. We are happy
to assist. |
18th: |
When cut in the rounded cabochon
cut, several gemstones can bear a straight line caused by tiny inclusions
that catch the light just right that creates the look of a cat’s eye, or in
quartz, a tigers eye. These gems are called
phenomenal gems because of their play on light. Interesting and curious a
great 18th gift! |
19th: |
As you enter the 19th year of
marriage, consider that aquamarine has historically been a symbol of fidelity
and hope. Aquamarine, or aqua as it is often phrased comes in very pale blues
to greenish blues and deeper rich blues and greenish blues. Select the color
you prefer! |
20th: |
Emerald’s beautiful green lends
itself to any type of jewelry! The 20th is a milestone worth gifting an
emerald for. Emeralds are often treated with oils, paraffin or resins to fill
fissures and improve clarity, and hardeners may be added to increase its
toughness yet can be found with no oil. No oil or no treatment stones are
rare and thus much more valuable. |
21st: |
Iolite is a blue to violet-blue or
greyish violet gemstone that’s often overshadowed by other gemstones stones.
Because of this, it’s not as easy to find in contemporary jewelry. Its
considered "natures doublet" because of its strong pleochroism. Ok
we lost you. That means from one angle it will look violet, another grey, and
another yellow. Its pretty amazing |
22nd: |
Another gemstone that is not as well known is spinel which comes in a variety of colors
and is durable and affordable. You’ll often see it in red, purple, blue and
pink, though black spinel is a dramatic look, either as a center stone or as
accents. Similar in color to some of the best rubies and sapphires spinel is
a great, much more affordable option. |
23rd: |
The name “imperial topaz” simply
refers to topaz that can range from an orangey pink to a deep golden pink
color often likened to cognac. Rare and hard to find, it matches the couples
who make it to 23 years. Certainly worth
celebrating. |
24th: |
Discovered in the late 1960s,
tanzanite is a purple or bluish purple gem, often
with a purplish/violet tone. Almost all tanzanite in the world is
heat-treated to improve the color, and the treatment is considered permanent.
Finding non heated tanzanite would not likely happen as its color is greyish
brown before heat. |
25th: |
The 25th is known as the silver
jubilee. There’s so much available in sterling silver for both him and her,
from jewelry to home accents, that splurging is the best idea. Flatware,
table wear, silver frames, serving pieces, sterling candelabras, even
toothpaste compressors are all options. Don't hold back. We carry mountains
of sterling silver and haven't listed them on our website yet are happy to
help! |
30th: |
Just as the jubilee expresses,
splurging on pearls is a way to show how love has grown over time. Since it’s
also the gem for the third anniversary, now’s a perfect time to upgrade. A
suite may be a great idea, larger, better, bigger. This is the time. |
35th: |
An emerald is a classic gemstone.
You'll find it twice on this an every other
anniversary list for good reason. Selecting the right emerald is tricky and
having one emerald is certainly not enough! Maybe its
time acquire a complementary piece to the one purchased 15 years ago. Maybe its time for an upgrade. |
40th: |
Ruby is also the gem for the
fifteenth. That gorgeous red that expresses the essence of love. This is the
time to splurge on an amazing ruby or suite of rubies. |
45th: |
Sapphire is on the list twice for
good reason. If you got the classic blue sapphire early on then consider a
piece in one of the other colors of sapphire. Consider a golden sapphire,
peacock, or green sapphire, maybe a pink sapphire! Now is the time to do it
right! |
50th: |
This is the time to gift heavy
gold pieces. A suite, is always a good idea and can complete an ensemble in
one swoop. We have plenty of complimentary pieces. |
55th: |
After 55 years, you should be
treating each other like royalty and this is the gemstones of the czar's! Alexandrite’s most striking feature is its ability
to change color. Alexandrite changes from a purplish-Red in incandescent
light, and under fluorescent light it changes to a teal or bluish- Green.
They say emerald by day and ruby by night. |
60th: |
At the 60th your love and
commitment to each other can never be doubted. It might be time for someone
else — perhaps your kids or grandkids — to show their love and pride with a
gift of diamond jewelry. Celebrate with style, you’ve earned it. |
70th: |
The 70th anniversary is the
platinum jubilee. Platinum is a hard and rare white metal that was largely
unavailable at the time anyone celebrating a 70th anniversary got married.
Maybe a bracelet or necklace would be the perfect way to commemorate the
occasion. |
75th: |
The 75th anniversary is the
sapphire jubilee, so celebrate with a sapphire bracelet or ring in many
colors, representing the variety of adventures you have experienced together
in life. |
80th: |
The 80th anniversary is the ruby
jubilee. If she doesn’t have a ruby ring or pin by now, this is the perfect
time to give her one! |
