Peter Lindeman was born in Berlin, Germany and yet grew up in Montevideo, Uruguay. He began his career in jewelry there apprenticing with a European firm but by 1947 at 17 he moved to New York. In New York he looked for, and found work with a few different higher end jewelers. After working for several years he began designing and in 1955 he creating his signature, a teardrop with an “L”. Lindeman began promoting his creations under his own name and he began selling his pieces on the road out of his trunk. His designs sold well and his workshop began creating pieces for more important wholesale clients such as Tiffany and Co amongst others. Over the years his business did well and he continued to craft interesting pieces.
