Marie Betteley
Marie Betteley is a respected jewelry expert, gemologist, author, and dealer specializing in antique and historic jewels, with a particular focus on Imperial Russian treasures and Fabergé. Born and raised in Paris, she grew up surrounded by art and rare objects before moving to the United States, where her father served as Director of Hillwood Museum & Gardens in Washington, DC — home to one of the world’s most important collections of Russian imperial art.
After earning a degree in Art History from George Washington University and studying gemology at GIA, Marie began her career at Christie’s New York, where she eventually became head of the Russian Department. Following a decade at Christie’s, she launched her own gallery and business specializing in exceptional antique jewelry and objets d’art.
Today, Marie Betteley is internationally recognized for her expertise in Russian decorative arts and fine jewelry. She is also the author of Beyond Fabergé: Imperial Russian Jewelry, a celebrated work exploring the history and artistry of Russia’s master jewelers.
