Louis Vuitton
Louis Vuitton started in jewelry in 1854 after founding a brand that focused on flat topped water tight steamer trucks. The trunks sold well with travelers and the famous Louis Vuitton motif was born. The design was patented in 1896 and the brands success just began. Shortly thereafter Louis' son Georges took the helm and pushed the company further before subsequent generations took over. When Louis Vuitton sold to LVMH Group they had already an eye at making watches and now had the financial backing to do so. Rather than license its name, Louis Vuitton opted to make its own timepieces and released its first collection in 2002 after two years of research. The timepieces sold well and other models were released in the years to come. With the success of the watches LVMH also elected to produce jewelry which has also sold well for the company.
