Hobe Jewelry
Hobe was founded in 1887, in Paris, by French goldsmith Jacques Hobe. William Hobe, Jacques son, took over the brand from his father and opened the first company branch abroad in New York in 1927 with the slogan was "Jewels of Legendary Splendor". Success followed William on Broadway as he collaborated with Florence Ziegfeld, a New York City Broadway producer. Ziegfeld asked him to create costume jewelry for his shows which impressed fine and costume jewelry wearers alike. Stars like Ava Ava Gardner, Betty Davis, Carole Lombard, and Barbara Stanwyck took a liking to the pieces and pushed the brand further. William, a master jeweler, used both fine and costume jewelry in his creations. Almost all of Hobe's jewelry carries a distinctive hallmark and most were made by Hobe himself though Lou Vicky sometimes helped until the end of the 1950's.
