Henry Dunay
Henry Dunay was born Henry Loniewski in New Jersey in 1935 to Polish parents. At 14 he went to work for Rudolph Cacioli, a jeweler on Canal Street in New York. There he starting as an errand boy and then worked his way through a jewelry apprenticeship learning goldsmithing and diamond setting. After seven years with Cacioli, he left to start his own business and he took his mothers maiden name Dunay. He founded his business in 1956, after his 21st birthday, and took on manufacturing and repair work from other jewelers like Harry Winston. His pieces were painstakingly made and attracted the attention of many wealthy clientele. Alongside jewelry Dunay also designed personal accessories, object, and time pieces. Dunay was badly affected by the financial crash of the late 2000s and in December 2009 his company Henry Dunay Designs and his inventory were sold at auction.
