Gustave Sandoz
Gustave Sandoz was owned by three successive generations founded in 1861 by Gustave Sandoz (1836-1891). Gustave was descended from a long line of clockmakers and he continued in clockmaking while still working on jewelry. He established a premises at Palais-Royal in 1865.
His son Gustave-Roger (1867-1942) took control of the business in 1891 and moved further into the jewelry space. When Gérard (1902-1995) joined his father in the business in 1920 he added more to the product line with sterling silver flatware. They attended the Exposition Internationale des Art Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes in 1925 and actually helped promote the event as Gustave helped start and organize the first one! Gérard's career was relatively short lived as his father sold the business in the late 1920’s to Georges L’Enfant. Gérard initially continued as artistic director and then in the early 1930’s he decided to switch careers for filmmaking. The company was dissolved soon after.
