Gillian Packard
Gillian Packard was born in Newcastle, England in 1938. After grade school she studied at the Kingston School of Art, the Central School, and the Royal College of Art and spent time working on Bond street at Asprey as a saleswoman after school. After graduating she began crafting pieces that would be shown and purchased by a loyal clientele. Her work was shown for the first time at an exhibition in 1961 when she was still a student. A year later she was being more noticed and began selling her works. As the business grew she set up her workshop in London’s West End in 1964. Here she employed six people in her staff and her workshop supplied products to more than 60 stores located in different parts of England as well as the US, Africa and Europe. As business continued to grow she moved to a new building in the same part of town and continued to grow the company.
