Gerda Lyngaard
Gerda Lynggaard (1936-2021) was a Danish jewelry designer and founder of the jewelry company Monies. She was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, and began her career in fashion design, working for a number of high-end fashion houses in Europe in the 1950s and 1960s. In the 1970s, she turned her attention to jewelry design and founded Monies with her husband, Nikolai Monies.
Monies is known for creating bold, sculptural jewelry pieces that often incorporate natural materials such as wood, bone, and horn. Lynggaard's designs are influenced by nature, and she drew inspiration from the organic shapes and textures found in the natural world. Her designs have been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Arts and Design in New York.
Lynggaard was known for her commitment to sustainable and ethical practices in jewelry making. Monies used only natural materials that were ethically sourced, and Lynggaard often traveled to remote locations to find the materials she used in her designs. She passed away in 2021 at the age of 84.
