Georges Lenfant
Georges Lenfant was a Cartier workmaster and made jewelry for many of the houses of the Place Vendome and rue de la Paix.
Georges Lenfant was born into the business and served various apprenticeships even studying jewelry in Paris and abroad. When he returned home from his studies he set up his own business at the beginning of the 20th Century. His workshop was situated at 47 rue des Petits-Champs not far from the Place Vendôme and rue de la Paix. He registered his distinctive makers mark until 1909. His mark can be found on pieces he created for Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Mellerio dits Meller as well as their marks. Georges was joined in the business in 1915 by his son Jacques who was only 11 at the time but went on carry his fathers legacy. Lenfant began working with Sandoz and finally in 1927, Gustave-Roger Sandoz decided to sell the business him. His son Gérard remained as artistic director for the next 11 years. After World War II, Lenfant bought Verger Frères which had been founded in 1872. In the 1950's collaborations continued with brands like Vacheron Constantin, Cartier, and Van Cleef & Arpels. In the 1960’s and 70’s the Lenfant workshop began to hone its focus to chain, bracelets and woven material which it continued to do so for many years.
