François-Rupert Carabin
François-Rupert Carabin was born March 17th 1862 in Saverne, Bas-Rhin, France. Known primarily for his craftsmanship in cabinetry, photography, and sculptors he also dabbled lightly in jewelry. Carabin's family refused to accept German nationality and moved to Paris when Carabin was just 8 years old. At the age of 16 he apprenticed with an engraver and started his first job as and ornamental sculptor.
In 1889 Carabin continued engraving medals and began sculpting in furniture. Simultaneously he also began sculpting in bronze and exhibited these in the 1897 Bernheim Gallery. His ability to sculpt also transfered into bone jewelry. When World War II ended Carabin dedicated much of his time to sculpting monuments for cities like Saverne. Carabin died on November 28th, 1932
