Jewelry artist and sculptor Björn Weckström was born and raised in Finland. Bjorn founded Lapponia with Pekka Anttila. Bjorn began in the 1960's creating jewelry inspired by gold nuggets from Lapland. His works sold well as they were not as conservative as the other jewelry being sold at the time and his business grew. The organic sculpturesque designs with matte gold became a signature feature by Weckström who built the brand and also began to work in silver. The silver pieces mimicked Finnish winter landscapes and he often used unconventional materials in the pieces which attracted attention of clients all over the world.
