Gigandet was born on February 16, 1869, in Tramelan, a small town in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. He began his career in watchmaking as an apprentice at a local watchmaker's workshop at the age of 15. He showed exceptional talent and quickly rose through the ranks, eventually becoming a master watchmaker.
In 1894, Gigandet founded his own company, which specialized in manufacturing high-quality watches. He was determined to create watches that were both accurate and aesthetically pleasing, and his watches quickly gained a reputation for their precision and elegance.
In 1904, Gigandet's company became one of the first watchmaking firms to introduce the wristwatch, which was still a relatively new concept at the time. The wristwatch quickly gained popularity, and Gigandet's company became one of the leading producers of wristwatches in Switzerland.
In 1912, Gigandet established a new factory in the town of Colombier, which was equipped with the latest technology and staffed by skilled workers. This factory enabled Gigandet to increase production and improve the quality of his watches even further.
During the First World War, Gigandet's company supplied watches to the Swiss military, which further enhanced its reputation for quality and reliability.
